Destiny developer Bungie has announced a new partnership with Chinese tech giant NetEase for future projects.
In a post on the company blog, Bungie said the new partnership with NetEase will
"help us explore new directions" and
"empower us to build new worlds and invite players, new and old, to join us there."
"They’ll help us support separate teams inside Bungie to bring our newest ambitions to life," the developer added.
Understandably, the partnership might have some
Destiny players concerned about the future of the franchise, but fret not, as Bungie assures the franchise won't be impacted by any future projects with NetEase. The developer said of
Destiny's future:
Destiny is an experience that will grow for many years to come. We’ll continue to work with our partners at Activision to foster this global community and turn new players from all over the world into Guardians. Our commitment to that world is not diminished by this announcement. We have exciting plans for the future of the Destiny franchise, and you’ll learn more about the next steps we’ll take together in the weeks to come.
For anyone doubting this commitment, Bungie has plans to reveal Destiny 2's Year 2 Content next week on June 5 via a live stream. A development roadmap for the game recently teased that Year 2 (coming in September) will include gear collections, records, weapon slot changes, weapon randomization, new gameplay modes, and more yet to be revealed.
As for what this future partnership means, that remains to be seen. However, NetEase does operate both Overwatch and World of Warcraft in the Chinese market and has produced some of China's biggest PC-based online games, according to IGN.
