Next week won't only mark the start of
Destiny 2's new Season of Opulence, it'll also mark the start of the next chapter of Bungie's online multiplayer shooter. While the Season of Opulence kicks off on Tuesday, June 4, Bungie has announced that a livestream on Thursday, June 6 will reveal the next chapter of
Destiny 2.
The announcement was made via a simple tweet with an image that offers little in terms of details. Close inspectionr eveals some sort of foggy haze with perhaps the outline of some new locations on
Destiny 2's map.
What makes the unveiling so interesting is the fact that this next chapter for
Destiny 2 will be the first that Bungie takes on its own without Activision calling the shots from above. The developer split from the publisher earlier this year, ending their 10-year publishing partnership.
While many believed the split would result in
Destiny 3, it seems — based on the phrasing — that Bungie will be sticking with
Destiny 2 for at least a little while longer.
What will you find in the Emperor's Lost Vaults? Welcome to the Season of Opulence. Travel to a new part of the Leviathan to uncover its hidden treasure-filled Catacombs. For every player of Destiny 2, Season of Opulence will bring new rewards and challenges. As ranks in Crucible, Gambit, and Vanguard activities reset, new pinnacle weapons are available for players to reach their maximum potential. Across the spectrum of action and activity, players can earn more Power, Triumphs, lore, and vanity.
Season of Opulence is the third extension of endgame content for those with
Destiny 2's Annual Pass. It begins on June 4 and will span multiple weeks, running through August. At that point, we're likely looking at whatever the next chapter for the game will be. You'll have to tune into the stream on June 6, which begins at 1:00 p.m. EDT (10:00 a.m. PDT).
