Bethesda Boss Says FALLOUT 76 Servers Could Run Forever As You Can’t Uninstall The Beta Until You Buy The Game

Fallout 76 is the gift that keeps on giving, as Bethesda's latest offering can't be uninstalled unless the player buys the game, but Pete Hines assures potential customers that the servers will be up "forever."

Nothing stops this train, as Fallout 76 finally releases in two days for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. It seems that Bethesda thinks you will love the game so much you won't even think about deleting it from your computer, as not a single developer at Bethesda bothered to test the uninstall function. Yes, you currently can't uninstall the game's B.E.T.A. from your PC unless you buy the full game.

According to players, the Bethesda.net launcher brings up a message that disallows the uninstallation process, with no way around it currently if you try to get rid of the B.E.T.A. files from your disc. “You do not have access to this game,” reads the message. “Please check to make sure you are signed in with the Bethesda.net account associated with the purchase of this game.

It looks like the B.E.T.A. (that has thankfully come to an end) was nothing short of a disaster, as a single bug forced the beta testers to redownload the nearly 48GB code for the game and even made it impossible for some to get the game installed. One would wonder about the final shape of the upcoming title, but vice president of Bethesda Softworks Pete Hines sees a plan for this game for years.

We’re going to keep going as long as people keep playing it and it shows no signs of slowing down,” said Hines in a recent interview with GameSpot. “Once we get to private servers or whatever happens in the years following; I don’t know. Maybe there’s a point where it doesn’t matter. But… this is a massive franchise and a massive undertaking, and our commitment to it is never-ending, and that it continues on an ongoing basis.”

Considering that Fallout 76's day one patch is bigger than the actual game and its total file size is closing in on a whopping 100GB, almost beating enormous Red Dead Redemption 2's 105GB file size, it will be fascinating to see what this mysterious post-launch strategy could possibly be. Unfortunately, releasing a complete product seemingly wasn't the main priority of the aforementioned plan.

Bethesda Game Studios, the award-winning creators of Skyrim and Fallout 4, welcome you to Fallout 76, the online prequel where every surviving human is a real person. Work together, or not, to survive. Under the threat of nuclear annihilation, you’ll experience the largest, most dynamic world ever created in the legendary Fallout universe.

Fallout 76 will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC November 14, 2018.
