If you thought Season 1 of Amazon's Fallout series was good, just wait until you see the second season. Walton Goggins gave a brief update on the status of Season 2, which is currently in the middle of filming, and had some very exciting things to say about it.
“We’re in the middle of filming it right now,” Goggins told Deadline. “We’ve been at it since November, and I can tell you that I thought season 1 was extraordinary, personally I was very pleased with it. This blows it out of the water."
"You know, what these writers have done and the artisans that have come together to tell this story, it’s really going to be something and I can’t wait for people to see it," he continued. "We’re working really hard to make that happen.”
Fallout premiered on Amazon's Prime Video in April of last year and received glowing reviews from critics and fans alike. Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, the first season was rated 94% by critics, who wrote: "An adaptation that feels like a true extension of the games, Fallout is a post-apocalyptic blast for newcomers and longtime fans alike."
Season 1 did an amazing job establishing the Fallout universe, which is based on the video game franchise from Bethesda. The story was enjoyable for both veterans of the video game franchise as well as newcomers who may have never even heard of it before.
The series synopsis reads:
Fallout is the story of haves and have-nots in a world in which there’s almost nothing left to have. Two-hundred years after the apocalypse, the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters are forced to return to the irradiated hellscape their ancestors left behind—and are shocked to discover an incredibly complex, gleefully weird, and highly violent universe waiting for them.
Season 1 specifically followed the journey of three main characters: Lucy, an optimistic Vault-dweller forced to the surface to rescue her father; Maximus, a young soldier who rises to the rank of squire in the militaristic faction called the Brotherhood of Steel; and the Ghoul, a morally ambiguous bounty hunter who holds within him a 200-yea history of the post-nuclear war. Their paths collide when chasing an artifact that could have major ramifications in this post-apocalyptic wasteland.
While all three of these characters are original to the show, there were plenty of easter eggs for fans of the video game franchise to enjoy throughout the first season. And there should be even more in Season 2, including an appearance from a Deathclaw. There's also speculation that Season 2 could take us to New Vegas, one of the iconic locations in the video game series.
Amazon hasn't provided a release window for Season 2 of Fallout, but series executive producer Jonathan Nolan previously acknowledged that he's "hopeful that we're not gonna have to wait that long."
Series showrunners Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner add that because much of the heavy lifting from Season 1 is already done, production on Season 2 should go much more quickly.
