One of the biggest video games in the world is about to unleash a collaboration with one of the biggest movies in the world. According to numerous leakers, Fortnite, the popular battle royale game from Epic Games, will collaborating with KPop Demon Hunters, Netflix's blockbuster animated musical film.
News of what would easily be one of the game's largest collaborative events comes from a "reliable source," according to Fortnite insiders SpushFNBR and Loolo.
Unfortunately, we'll have to wait for more details. Both insiders say to expect more information in the coming days and weeks ahead.
KPop Demon Hunters coming to Fortnite would undoubtedly be one of Fortnite's biggest collaborations. Released on Netflix over the summer, the animated fantasy musical has become a major success for the streamer. With more than 236 million global views since its release, KPop Demon Hunters is Netflix's most-watched original movie ever.
A musical fantasy, the film's soundtrack found similar success having debuting at No. 8 on the U.S. Billboard 200. The soundtrack would eventually peak at No. 2 on the charts with several songs from the OST charting strongly. The track "Golden" by the fictional KPop group Huntr/x hit No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Hot 100.
A special sing-along version of the movie, designed to celebrate the movie's incredible soundtrack, was released in theaters for a limited run in the United States and Canada in August. Despite having been available for free on Netflix for months, the special event still pulled in around $19 million in ticket sales over the single weekend.
Inspired by the movie's success, Netflix has big plans for KPop Demon Hunters as a franchise, including sequels, merchandise, and more.
Despite the lack of details surrounding this rumored collaboration, it's not hard to imagine the type of KPop Demon Hunters content that could make its way into Fortnite. I'm going to assume we'll be getting character skins for all three Huntr/x members — Rumi, Mira, and Zoey — but will it be the "How It's Done" or "Golden" oufits? I really hope we see an emote based on the Saja Boys hit song "Soda Pop," as well as Huntr/x "Golden."
There's certainly not shortage of opportunities here and can't wait to see what Fortnite pulls from KPop Demon Hunters. Keep in mind that this collaboration has not officially been announced, but we'll get a better idea in the coming days and weeks.
