It's been just a few months since KPop Demon Hunters premiered on Netflix, and already the animated musical action fantasy is making waves throughout the video game industry. We've been hearing talk about how just about every game developer is seeking to collaborate with the blockbuster Netflix movie, but it seems like Fortnite may be the first to get dibs.
Earlier this month, we reported on rumors that a Fortnite collaboration with KPop Demon Hunters would be coming later this year, but I don't think anyone expected just how soon. According to prominent insider Hypex, KPop Demon Hunters will be the main Halloween collaboration in Fortnite.
We don't know exactly what this collaboration will consist of, but Hypex claims it is "stacked" and will feature more than just character skins. While I expect character skins inspired by Huntr/x members Rumi, Zoey, and Mira to be the main cosmetics, I think the film's soundtrack could also be used for jam tracks. I wouldn't be surprised to see some of the movie's most popular songs, such as "Golden," "How It's Done," or "Takedown" make their way into the game. We may even see some cosmetics inspired by the demons. Perhaps we'll get some cosmetics inspired by Jinu or the Saja Boys, like their hit song "Soda Pop".
Fortnite is no stranger to collaborating with major franchises, but KPop Demon Hunters would undoubtedly be the biggest of the year. The film, which was produced by Sony Pictures Animation, became Netflix's most-watched movie ever with over 236 million views globally in just the first two months after release. As of its 91-day tracking period, it recorded 325.1 million views on Netflix, making it the most viewed film ever on the streaming service.
The film's soundtrack has achieved similar success, reaching No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200. Its signature track, "Golden," by the fictional girl band Huntr/x, also hit No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200, while several other songs have charted in Spotify U.S. Daily Top Songs.
KPop Demon Hunters is just one of several collaborations planned for Fortnite's annual Halloween event, Fortnitemares. This year's spooktacular event is also expected to feature cosmetics from R.E.P.O., Scream, and Friday the 13th.
We don't have an exact date yet, but Fortnitemares typically kicks off in early October in Fortnite.
