A two-factor authenticator basically adds another step to your log-in process. Players enter their email, password and then use this authenticator to input the third code needed. Fortnite's authenticator can be used through an app or through email.

When you agree to this authentication, you will have to enter a code and sign in to your account. After enabling this feature, the passcode you set will have to be used in order to sign in.

Here are the instructions straight from Epic Games:
  • In your ACCOUNT Settings, click on the PASSWORD & SECURITY tab to view your security settings.
  • At the bottom of the page, under the TWO-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION heading, click to ENABLE AUTHENTICATOR APP or ENABLE EMAIL AUTHENTICATION as your two-factor method.
If you prefer to use an authenticator app for two-step verification, here are a few common authenticator apps that can be found in your mobile device app store:
  • Google Authenticator
  • LastPass Authenticator
  • Microsoft Authenticator
  • Authy
If security is an important issue for you, give this two-factor authentication a go!

Fortnite is available for free on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Swith and PC.
