Epic Games
provided a status update on the mobile version of their popular game
Fortnite. In a blog post, the developer confirmed they are working to bring voice chat to mobile, while also revealing plans to improve gameplay and control features like Autorun and combat. Epic is also looking into addressing the installation size and update experience for
Fortnite on mobile. And finally, Android owners finally received a target release window.
Earlier this week, an update introduced the ability for you to customize the gameplay HUD on mobile. This feature is already live and allows you to rearrange the on-screen buttons in a layout you prefer. Buttons can be resized with visibility adjustments as well.
Looking ahead, Epic Games is working on bringing voice chat to mobile.
"We know that communication is key when you’re squadding up for that Victory Royale, so we’re working to bring voice chat to mobile," the developer said.
"On top of that, you’ll be able to chat with your teammates regardless of platform!"
Even though communication is key in
Fortnite, sometimes you just want to ignore somebody. So Epic is looking to make it
"really easy" to mute yourself, other players, or open up all communications with a single tap. According to the developer,
"There will be a button on the screen that lets you mute yourself, mute everyone in your party, or go back to open-microphone."
Other areas of improvements focus on gameplay and controls with Epic looking into improving Autorun and adding better ways to fire; reducing file size for installation and future updates; adding a Battery-Saver mode; implementing stat tracking (sometime this summer); working to fix crashes and other stability issues.
Perhaps the most exciting news, though, is that Epic finally has a target release window for
Fortnite on Android devices - this summer.
"We know many of you are excited for this release, and we promise that when we have more information to share, you’ll hear it from us first," Epic promised.
