Season 8 of Fortnite removed many of the game's vehicles from battle royale, but Epic Games is rapidly introducing new ones. The newest is The Baller, a spherically shaped vehicle that looks like it came straight from Jurassic World.
The Baller is all about mobility. It features a Grappler and Boost functionality that enables you to pull yourself up cliffs and swing through trees. In addition to its mobility, the Baller also protects its driver with 300 Health. You can find this single-seat vehicle at Expedition Outposts and around pirate camp loot stashes.
In addition to The Baller, update v8.10 makes a major change to Vending Machines. Epic Games has removed the material cost from vending machines, allowing you to obtain one item/weapon for free. The tradeoff is that the vending machine will disappear after you claim the item. Common and Uncommon items have also been removed from Vending Machines.
While those are the two biggest changes, today's update also removes the Common rarity Infantry Rifle and adjusts the rarity of the Heavy Assault Rifle from Rare/Epic/Legendary to Common/Uncommon/Rare with damage scaled appropriately, 36/38/40.
Besides actual gameplay balancing, Epic Games has also adjusted crossplay matchmaking. The Xbox One and PS4 pools have been combined and require you to opt-in to cross-play. If you don't opt-in to crossplay, you are restricted to Creative Mode and Playgrounds. The Nintendo Switch meanwhile has been combined with mobile; previously Switch players were combined with Xbox One and PS4.
"We expect an on-average better per-game experience for both Mobile and Switch players," Epic said. "Motivating factor is unlocking optimization potential allowing us to run more playlists during more hours of the day while supporting more data center locations."
