Fortnite Season 5 kicked off this week and with it comes a brand new Battle Pass filled with all sorts of cosmetic goodies. The Season 5 Battle Pass offers a total of 100 rewards spread throughout 100 tiers that are unlocked by completing daily and weekly challenges.

Assuming you reach tier 100 by the end of the season, you'll unlock a total of six outfits, four pickaxes, five emotes, four gliders, five back blings, five skydiving trails, 15 sprays and 1,300 V-Bucks (which is actually enough to get next season's Battle Pass for free). A trailer for the Season 5 Battle Pass highlights some of these new cosmetics.

For those of you new to Fortnite, Epic has also released a general overview for how Battle Pass works. Completing challenges rewards you with Battle Stars which, in turn, help you reach new Battle Pass tiers. There are two "tracks" - a free track and the paid Battle Pass track. This season, seven weekly challenges are actually split: three are available to all players for free, while four are available only to Battle Pass owners. The threshold to unlock the weekly challenge reward will remain at four, however.

Additionally, the progressive skin challenges have also returned, but Epic has made some slight changes. For starters, progressive challenges are no longer restricted to a single season. Additionally, they are no longer tied to your season level and are instead completed by acquiring a fixed amount of XP. This season's two progressive outfits are Drift (200,000 XP) and Ragnarok (500,000 XP).

Completing your weekly challenges will help you complete the Road Trip Challenge (Season 5's version of the Blockbuster Challenge). This requires you to complete all of the weekly challenges over seven weeks to unlock a secret legendary skin. Season 4's was The Traveler.

Finally, you may have noticed in the above trailer the addition of toys. These are new items that take the space of an emote and allow you to play games within the map. For instance, there's a basketball toy that lets you shoot the ball, so if you can find a basketball court feel free to partake in a game. New toys also include a volleyball and golf ball (perfect for Lazy Links).

Fortnite Season 5 is now live and will run for 10 weeks. Check out all of the new additions and changes to the map and gameplay here.
