Fortnite Season 6 is officially upon us. The 6.00 update dropped this morning, introducing the new season for the popular battle royale game. As expected the new season features a ton of changes to both the map and overall gameplay of
Fortnite.
Most notably, the house at Loot Lake is now floating in the middle of the sky atop an island that you can get to by hopping into a giant whirling vortex. Loot Lake was the final resting spot for the giant purple cube and it looks like it had quite an impact. The surrounding area is back to being water again, although there are now multiple tiers with some shallow areas that make it a bit easier to run.
Other notable changes to the map include Corrupted Areas which are locations where the runes from the purple cube once sat. These areas contain Shadow Stones, a new item that we'll get to in a bit. With fall upon us, the corn fields at Fatal Fields are now fully grown and provide an excellent hiding place to surprise enemies. And with Halloween rapidly approaching, there's a spooky Haunted Castle now overlooking Haunted Hills.
These are just the most noticeable changes to the map with Season 6, but I'm sure there are more subtle ones as well. Additionally, you can expect the map to continue to evolve as Season 6 progresses.
In terms of gameplay, the big new item with this update is the Shadow Stone. This item is a consumable found in corrupted areas and will apply a "Shadow Form" for a brief period. While in Shadow Form, you become invisible to enemies when stationary, but you're unable to use weapons. If you move, you become visible and leave behind a Shadow Trail. In addition to becoming invisible, you also gain increased movement speed, jump height, and fall damage immunity as well as the new ability Phase, which propels you in the direction you are facing and allows you to pass through objects. The effects of consuming a Shadow Stone last 45 seconds, but can be exited early by holding down the Alt Fire button (aim down sites).
Update 6.00 also brings changes to the timing of the Storm Circle, input-based matchmaking that recognizes players using keyboard and mouse on a console, minor balance adjustments to certain weapons and items, and bug fixes. Check out the full patch notes
