You know what's scarier than looking down the barrel of a shotgun? Looking down the barrels of a shotgun.
Fortnite's latest update adds the new double barrel shotgun to Battle Royale. The new shotgun is described as "devastating" at close range as it gives you two rapid shots before having to reload
Terminator-style.
The double barrel shotgun is available in both Epic and Legendary variants and can be found from floor loot, chests, Supply Drops, and Vending Machines. According to Epic, it
"delivers high burst damage at very close range but damage falls off heavily at a distance." The video below tests the weapon's damage at various distances.
More specifically, the double barrel shotgun fires 10 pellets like other Shotguns, has a larger spread, lower critical damage multiplier (1.25x), and a 2-second cooldown when swapping between weapons. The Epic variant offers up to 143 base damage per shot at "extreme close range," while the Legendary variant offers up to 150 base damage per shot at "extreme close range."
In addition to the double barrel shotgun, today's update rebalances Vending Machines, specifically spawning more often, costing less, and having an increased chance to spawn at a higher rarity. And, as promised, Remote Explosives have been nerfed, with a reduction in drop count (4 to 3) and max stack size (10 to 6). A higher accuracy penalty has also been added to jumping and sprinting with Dual Pistols, Submachine Guns, and Hunting Rifles.
The new Steady Storm Limited Time Mode is also now live as is the weekly Horde Challenges in Save the World (
Fortnite 's PvE mode). Of course, the update offers bug fixes and balance tweaks across both Battle Royale and Save the World. Full patch notes for update 5.20
