THQ has announced that Homefront has already sold-through an estimated more than one million units across North America, Europe and Asia Pacific markets. Not only that, the near-future shooter has also shipped more than 2.4 million units to date worldwide.
"We are very pleased with strong worldwide shipments and sell-through for Homefront, and we continue to fulfill new retail orders for the game across the globe," said Brian Farrell, THQ President and CEO. "Homefront is clearly resonating with gamers and we are certainly pleased with our initial sales results."
According to Xbox Live Programming Director Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb, the shooter debuted at number six on Xbox Live's most-played chart. The list is based on total global unique users and was tracked since March 14, a day before the game was released.
The final tally for Homefront is likely to be much higher, according to Electronic Entertainment Design and Research vice president of capital research Jesse Divnich. He predicts that Homefront will top 3 million worldwide sales when the final numbers are in.
"The 375,000 day one unit sales announcement demonstrated that Homefront was on track to surpass 1 million units in its first week and produce a ship-in figure in excess of 2 million units," said Divnich in a note to investors. "The market's narrow view and overreliance on aggregated review scores prevented analysts and investors from observing the big picture--Homefront will be a success for THQ."
THQ's has future plans for Homefront as well, including a pipeline of downloadable content that will debut on the Xbox 360 and (for those that haven't played the
single-player campaign) a sequel is apparently already in the planning stages.
