Electronic Arts has set high expectations for the upcoming reboot of the Medal of Honor franchise.
Greg Goodrich, Medal of Honor executive producer, told Chris Suellentrop of the New York Times that if the game doesn't sell at least three million copies, "I'm not going to be able to do another one."
The interview also revealed that the game was originally entitled Medal of Honor: Anaconda, and was going to be based on a failed Afghanistan operation in 2002.
A former member of the armed services that was working as a consultant on the game said: "We thought it hit a little too close to home... [and would] put a sour taste in our brothers' mouths."
Medal of Honor will introduce the Tier 1 Operator: a relatively unknown entity directly under the National Command Authority who takes on missions no one else can handle. The development team has been working closely with Tier 1 Operators from the U.S. Special Operations Community since the earliest stages of development to create the most authentic modern war experience. Inspired by real events, Medal of Honor reveals the mission of today's most elite American soldier – his will, his mindset and his uncompromising professionalism.
The game is set to release October 10 for the Xbox 360 and PS3.
