Overwatch 2's next hero is set to arrive in Season 2 and now we know who it will be. During the Overwatch League Grand Finals this week, Blizzard announced that Ramattra will be the next playable character to join Overwatch 2.
The leader of Null Sector, an extremist group fighting to achieve omnic rights, Ramattra was seen briefly at the end of the "Storm Rising" event in the original Overwatch game. With his reveal, however, Blizzard shared his official origin story, providing a bit more context and background.
"Ramattra’s story is complex and multifaceted, and his ultimate goal is to protect his people—but the cost of that goal is still to be determined," Blizzard teased.
Ramattra was built as a war machine to lead omnics into battle, but all he wanted to really do was build a better future for his people. He shed his weapons and sought to shield his people by promoting peace and tranquility. Despite his attempts to forge peace and coexist with humanity, omnics still faced discrimination and, ultimately, violence.
Ramattra grew resentful of humanity's intolerance and as the number of omnics started to dwindle, he realized the only way to create a better future for his people was through force.
"Ramattra’s story is one of hardships, trauma, and a magnified view of humanity’s harsh realities," Blizzard detailed
Ramattra joins Overwatch 2 as the game's 11th tank. Although Blizzard stopped short of revealing his specific details, we did learn he has the ability to transform between two forms.
In his standard Omnic form, Ramattra is more of a long-range tank. He wields a staff that fires projectiles and can create a barrier to protect his team.
By activating his cooldown ability, he can transform into his Nemesis form. This is a more aggressive form in which he becomes more of a giant brawler capable of piercing through enemy tank shields.
This ability to switch between forms gives players the option to decide how they want to play Ramattra. Do you want to stay in a more traditional tank form with the ability to shield their teammates or is the best defense a strong offense?
Ramattra will join Overwatch 2 when Season 2 arrives on December 6. Players who purchase the Premium version of the Season 2 Battle Pass will gain instant access to the new hero. Those who stick to the free version of the Battle Pass will be required to reach Level 55 to unlock him.
