Wrecking Ball, the champion of the Scrapyard, and newest hero for
Overwatch is set to go live next week on Tuesday, July 24. The 28th hero to join the fray, Wrecking Ball was
officially unveiled last month and has been available to test on the PTR.
Wrecking Ball's true identity is Hammond, a genetically modified hamster also known as "Specimen 8" while undergoing testing on the Horizon Lunar Colony. While there, Hammond was granted increased size and intelligence. He eventually escaped by attaching himself to Winston's ship and hitched a ride to Earth where he crash-landed in the Australian Outback near Junkertown. While there, he transformed his escape pod into a formidable mech - becoming Wrecking Ball. Now he's ready to roll into battle, flatten foes, and bulldoze frontlines.
Wrecking Ball is considered a tank hero. More specifically, he's described as an aggressive bruiser with abilities that emphasize speed and mobility, allowing him to bully his way to the enemy backline. In case you haven't played as him yet, check out his abilities below:
-
Quad Cannons: Wrecking Ball fires machine guns
-
Adaptive Shield: Grants Wrecking Ball a number of temporary shields based on the number of enemies nearby
-
Roll: Wrecking Ball transforms into a sphere with increased speed
-
Grappling Claw: While in Roll mode, Wrecking Ball can launch a short grappling hook to attach to surfaces, swing around, clear gaps, and move upwards. Using this ability allows Wrecking Ball to gain momentum, dealing damage and knocking back enemies upon impact
-
Piledriver: Wrecking Ball slams down from the air, pulling enemies towards the center of impact and dealing damage
-
Minefield (Ultimate): Wrecking Ball litters the ground around him with damage-dealing proximity mines
Lookout for Wrecking Ball to arrive in
Overwatch on July 24. As per usual, he won't be available to play as in ranked immediately.
