Blizzard
promised the Summer Games would return to
Overwatch earlier than usual this year and they weren't joking; the annual in-game event went live today. Lúcioball has once again made a return, much to the disappointment of many who were hoping for something new from Blizzard.
The event also brings a slew of summer-themed hero skins, emotes, and intros, some of which are actually locked behind weekly challenges. New to this year's event, each week comes with three exclusive rewards that tied to winning games. A total of three cosmetics - one spray, one icon, and one hero skin - are rewarded for winning games during each week. Winning three games gets you a spray; six, an icon; and nine, an exclusive.
The three weekly challenges skins are as follows:
Week 1 (July 16-22) American Reaper Skin
Week 2 (July 23-29) Zhongguo Mei Skin
Week 3 (July 16-22) Bundesadler Reinhardt Skin
In addition to these weekly exclusive skins, the 2019 Summer Games does offer other cosmetics (skins, emotes, and intros) that can be unlocked via opening special loot boxes. A total of 4 new Legendary and 4 new Epic skins are available along with 1 highlight intro, 2 emotes, 3 victory poses, 9 new player icons and 2 new sprays. And, of course, previous Summer Games-themed cosmetics are also back and available during the event.
The
Overwatch 2019 Summer Games run through August 5.
