Overwatch's annual Winter Wonderland seasonal event is set to return next week on December 11, Blizzard announced on Twitter. The limited time special event will spread holiday cheer throughout all of Overwatch with festive game modes, wintery map remakes, and all sorts of fun and exciting seasonal cosmetics.
Unfortunately, Blizzard didn't offer any specific details alongside the teaser. The teaser suggests the game's amusement park-themed map Blizzard World will be getting a holiday makeover and we can assume there will be a fresh batch of new cosmetics in the form of character skins, sprays, emotes, voice lines, and more. It's possible that Overwatch's most recently introduced hero, Ashe, will be a recipient for one of the seasonal legendary skins this year.
What we don't know is if we will get a new seasonal brawl mode. Last year introduced Yeti Hunter, a 5v1 match where a team comprised of only a bunch of Mei characters tried to hunt down and kill an overpowered Winston (who served as the Yeti). The lone Yeti character tried to survive and kill the Meis. Last year's Winter Wonderland event also brought back Mei's Snowball Offensive, an elimination-style brawl in which teams of six (also all Mei characters) had to try and blast eliminate each other by shooting a snowball.
But while new modes are fun, the real excitement comes from opening loot boxes and seeing if you'll receive a nice Legendary present or a lump of Rare coal. In addition to new seasonal items, you'll also likely be able to purchase the seasonal items from past years' events, typically at a slightly discounted price.
