Yesterday's Walmart Canada's leak is a thing to behold. The placeholders for the upcoming
Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell, Forza: Horizon, Gears of War, Just Cause, Borderlands, and even more have since been removed from the company's website, but this should not have happened and it ruined some of Ubisoft, Square Enix, Sony, Microsoft, and Bethesda's E3 2018 surprises for sure.
One of the games that were gloriously "
announced' yesterday was
Rage 2, the continuation of id Software'
s Rage which was reseeded in 2011 as the spiritual successor of the
Doom franchise and was the final game released by Bethesda under the supervision of founder John Carmack using the groundbreaking id Tech 5 engine (with a more advanced MegaTexture technology).
The only publisher that has reacted to Walmart's revelations so far is Bethesda, the home of
Fallout and
Wolfenstein.
Rage's official twitter account had immediately reacted to the shop's leak and posted an upgraded version of the cover changing the font (it's much bigger now) or adding notes like "missing age rating" and it wouldn't be that shocking as almost all id Software's games are for adults.
Pete Hines responded to these leaks with a simple “
this is why we can't have nice things” and asked a fan who had his doubts about the future of
Doom to “
go buy a Magic 8-ball at WalMart and ask it”. Maybe it's a bit of a reach, but it definitely sounds like Walmart ruined yesterday one of Bethesda’s surprises at E3 2018 as the publisher’s conference will be held on Sunday, June 10 at 6:30 p.m. PT/9:30 p.m. ET/2:30 a.m. GMT on June 11/11:30 a.m. AEST on June 11.
