RAGE was released over seven years ago and hardly anyone had ever asked for a sequel to that title, as the majority of players and critics agreed that id Software's technologically ambitious game ended up being an underwhelming and insanely short experience set in a depressing, but also quite beautiful post-apocalyptic world. Avalanche's
RAGE 2 will change that and leave
RAGE’s griminess far behind.
RAGE 2 is the gaudy baby of an unexpected cooperation between Avalanche Studios (
Mad Max, Just Cause) and id Software (
DOOM, Quake), the creators of the original
RAGE, that's mostly remember for its (kind of) groundbreaking use of the MegaTexture technology. According to the developers, the upcoming sandbox extravaganza won't be trying to experiment with the already established (and working well) engine, and will instead focus on delivering a mesmerizing gameplay experience.
To fight and take down the villainous Authority, the player will use not only a verity of overpowered weapons and unique special abilities, but also some pretty cool and useful vehicles, like the fast and well-armored Phoenix, which will be your main starting car, which reportedly feels almost like
Batman: Arkham Knight’s Batmobile. Be sure to check out a collection of selected
RAGE 2 concept art below:
In the year 2185, humanity’s numbers are dwindling. Ruthless and bloodthirsty gangs roam the open roads and the tyrannical Authority seek to rule who remains with an iron fist. You are Walker, the last Ranger of the wasteland. Robbed of your home and left for dead, you’ll tear across an unforgiving wasteland battling bloodthirsty gangs to find the tools and tech needed to take the fight to The Authority and crush their oppressive rule once and for all!
RAGE 2 will be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on May 14, 2019.
