Star Wars Battlefront is a lot of fun, but there's no denying that it was seriously let down by the lack of a single player campaign. As immersive as it may be battling other players online on worlds like Bespin and Hoth, a story mode would have made a huge difference, but we finally have confirmation that we're getting one in the sequel. That's currently expected to be released sometime in Fall 2017.
"Myself as a Star Wars fan, I want story, I want narrative, I want something I can play that immerses me in that world but gives me something to follow and chase," says DICE producer Paul Keslin. He then went on to say that the recent Rogue One and Death Star DLC was used to test the waters for a story mode by building a narrative into the gameplay. "We know that players want that, [campaign] we’re not able to give them a full-fledged campaign post-launch for Battlefront, but how can we scratch that itch a bit?" That was definitely a good start, but far from a real campaign mode!
Still, now that we know a single player storyline is coming, it's time to get excited about what that will consist of. With any luck, it will be longer than the normal five or six hour campaign featured in most FPS games, but with characters from the new trilogy set to appear here, we should be in for a treat!
