As revealed by Reddit user PracticalBrush12, the man responsible for the recent
Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers leak, the next entry in the long-running
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon game series is not a battle royale title – and it looks like fans of 2017's critically acclaimed
GR: Wildlands will be more than happy with the direction that Ubisoft Paris has reportedly taken in the upcoming installment.
According to PracticalBrush12, the game's full title is
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC on October 4th – which would definitely make sense, as last year's
Assassin's Creed: Odyssey launched on October 5th, and we know that the series is taking a break in 2019.
Breakpoint will apparently be a "
story-driven 4-player [co-op] experience," akin to what we've seen in
Wildlands. While the 2017 game was all about fighting the Santa Blanca cartel, the upcoming entry reportedly sees the Ghosts facing Cole D. Walker – a character played by
The Punisher star Jon Bernthal in the recent
Wildlands DLC, entitled
Operation Oracle. If the Redditior's claims are true, Walker is a rogue agent who killed three members of the
Wildlands crew (Holt, Midas, and Waaver), forcing Nomad to establish a brand-new Ghost squad in Auroa – but it's not clear what that place actually is.
Finally, Skell Technology may also play a role in
Breakpoint, as the mysterious drone company is supposedly helping Walker with high-end technology used by the Ghosts,
Splinter Cell's Sam Fisher in
Wildlands'
Special Operation 1, and even Team Rainbow, making the actual gameplay more strategic.
Given that the new
Ghost Recon will be revealed tomorrow, be sure to take PracticalBrush12's reporting with a grain of salt – as the future of the series will be unveiled May 9th, at 11:30 PDT.
The Santa Blanca drug cartel has transformed the beautiful South American country of Bolivia into a perilous narco-state, leading to lawlessness, fear, and rampant violence. The citizens of Bolivia have been plagued by the criminal influence of the cartel, but all hope is not lost. Now only the Ghosts, an elite US Special Forces team, can save the country from complete collapse.
