Ahead of gamescom, EA and DICE have announced that the early access to open beta for Battlefield 5 will begin next month on September 4. Early access is granted to those who have either pre-ordered the game or subscribe to either EA Access, Origin Access, Origin Access Premier. The open beta will begin for everyone else on Thursday, September 6, and will run for a "limited time" - presumably through the weekend at least.
The open beta will include the 64-player Conquest mode on the Rotterdam map, "set in the embattled Holland city," or the Arctic Fjord map, "set in icy Narvik, Norway." The most recent trailer for
Battlefield 5 showed off the intense gameplay on the Rotterdam map. The trailer also provided a glimpse of
Battlefield 5's battle royale mode which will, unfortunately, not be present in the beta (and probably not at launch either).
In addition to Conquest, players will also get a glimpse of
the new Grand Operations, historically-inspired multi-round experiences set across multiple maps and modes that take players through a narrative journey where each round of play represents a day of combat. Two "days" of Grand Operations will be available in the beta where players
can deploy in the Airborne or Breakthrough modes on the Arctic Fjord map.
The open beta will also offer a five-part Tides of War chapter, granting anyone who completes it during the beta an exclusive in-game Dog Tag available at launch. As revealed previously, Tides of War is an ever-evolving journey through WWII where players are provided new narratives, experiences, and cosmetics every few months post-launch. As a reminder,
Battlefield 5's Tides of War won't require a Premium Pass or any other microtransaction to access the additional content.
Although open beta begins September 4/6, you can begin pre-loading it on September 3.
Battlefield 5 launches worldwide on October 19 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
