Ubisoft had announced that their
Far Cry 5 is officially the fastest-selling title in the series, generating $310 million in consumer spending through the first week. Impressively, it wasn't the title's only record, as players have steamed more than 55,000 hours of the game, reaching approx. 117 million views on YouTube, possibly earning the title of the most viewed Ubisoft game in history.
These numbers double what
Far Cry 4 achieved during its 2014 launch
. Far Cry 5 also is just $20 million short on tying with the company’s biggest launch on its first week,
Tom Clancy’s The Division which was released back in 2016. Naturally, the French publisher won't see all of
Far Cry 5's earned money, as retailers and platform holders such as Valve, Microsoft and Sony all take a cut.
In other news, Ubisoft's sales in last fiscal year beat the company's expected $1.9 billion target as titles such as
Assassin’s Creed: Origins, Rainbow Six Siege, South Park: The Fractured but Whole and
Ghost Recon Wildlands helped to raise Ubisoft’s total annual sales for 2017-2018 to an extremely impressive €1,731.9 million (around $2 billion). The studio will also support
Far Cry 5 with new content, including three big DLC, with the upcoming
Lost On Mars expansion launching soon.
