Fortnite Battle Royale has already racked up more than two million downloads on the Nintendo Switch via the eShop, Nintendo has confirmed to Polygon. The insanely popular game officially released for the hybrid console yesterday and it's already proven to be a hit.
“Fortnite’s launch went extremely well — we had more than 2 million downloads in less than 24 hours,” Reggie Fils-Aime, president and chief operating officer of Nintendo of America, revealed. “I think that speaks to the power of the franchise, the engagement of our players and the resonance of being able to play it anytime, anywhere.”
Unlike the Nintendo Wii U, third-party developers have been more willing to port their games to the Switch given its player base. What's more, the game offers cross-platform play for every platform (except Sony) so even if someone has downloaded the game on, say, PC or Xbox, they are able to also access their account on the Switch; this theoretically allows you to play the game anywhere, on-the-go. This is especially great for Android owners who still don't have access to Fortnite Battle Royale.
Unfortunately,
Fortnite's arrival on Switch has brought a storm of trouble for Sony over its controversial stance on cross-platform play. Not only does not allow its players to play with Xbox or Nintendo, but PS4 players can't even access their Epic accounts on the Switch due to weird restrictions. If you've ever played the game at some point in the past on PlayStation 4, you are literally unable to play on Switch (or Xbox even) with that same account. It's an incredibly frustrating stance by Sony and players have certainly let them know.

Fortnite Battle Royale can now be played on just about every platform available, including Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, iOS, and PS4. It is coming to Android devices at well in the future.
