Darkness has risen in
Fortnite and haunting happenings are occuring throughout both the Battle Royale and Save the World modes. Update 6.20 arrived today, introducing Fortnitemares 2018.
This year's Halloween-themed event in
Fortnite revolves around that mysterious purple cube that has been floating across the sky in Battle Royale. Now, it's fighting back, unleashing Cube Fragments that spawn Cube Monsters. Large Cube Fragments are found near corrupted areas while Small Cube Fragments are randomly created throughout the match. These Fragments have a chance to spawn Cube Fiends or Brutes which will grant a small amount of shield when you defeat them. Here are the rewards:
-
Eliminating a Cube Fiend will grant +3 shield
-
Eliminating an Elite Cube Fiend will grant +5 shield
-
Eliminating a Cube Brute will grant +10 shield
-
Eliminating an Elite Cube Brute will grant +15 shield
-
Eliminating a Mega Cube Brute will grant +20 shield
To fend off these evil creatues, Epic has added a Fiend Hunter Crossbow, a limited time weapon exclusive to Fortnitemare. This Epic weapon features a seven arrow magazine size with unlimited arrow. It does 40 base damage with a four times multiplier against Fiends.
Fortnitemares also introduces the new Deadfire Outfit along with a eries of challenges that unlock additional in-game cosmetics. Deadfire Outfit is a reactive outfit that features in-match progression, something we haven't seen in
Fortnite yet. We've had Outfits with varying tiers of customization options that are unlocked as you gain experience, but nothing that changes based on an individual game performance.
The outfit will progress through 2 styles based on the damage you deal enemies (players and AI) and how long you last in a match. Deadfire also comes with the Shackled Stone Back Bling and you can pick up his matching Dark Shard pickaxe in the store, both of these are reactive cosmetics.
We're also getting a new batch challenges that are exclusive to Fortnitemares. It seems there will be multiple sets of challenges throughout the month and completing them all will unlock the Dark Engine glider. The first set of challenges are:
-
Destroy Cube Monsters
-
Deal damage with Assault Rifles or Pistols to Cube Monsters
-
Visit a Corrupted Area in different matches
-
Dance at different Gargoyles
In addition to Fortnitemares, the update adds the more permanent Six Shooter. "Shoot from the hip for faster fire rate, or trade rate of fire for precision by aiming down the sight," Epic teases. The Six Shooter is found in Uncommon, Rare, and Epic Variants with 34, 36, and 38 base damage, respectively. It uses medium ammo.
The traditional Hand Cannon has also received a much-needed buff. Epic has increased the damage it does to structures as well as the minimum damage it does at long range:
-
Increased damage to structures.
-
Epic - From 79 to 150
-
Legendary - From 83 to 157
-
Increased minimum long-range body shot damage.
-
Epic - From 30 to 50
-
Legendary - From 31 to 52
-
Increased minimum long-range head shot damage.
-
Epic - From 60 to 100
-
Legendary - From 62 to 104
Today's update also completely redesigns the Social List, adds new challenges to Playground, and contains a ton of bug fixes - all of which can be read about more
in the patch notes. If you care about Fortnitemares 2018 in Save the World, you can read more about that
