Sam Fisher Pays Homage To METAL GEAR's Big Boss In This Nostalgic And Unexpected GHOST RECON: WILDLANDS Scene

After Kojima's departure from the Metal Gear series and messed up Survive, it looks like the legendary franchise is dead and Splinter Cell's Sam Fisher has something to say about it in this unexpected homage!

Sam Fisher, the spy who made Ubisoft what it is today, has returned in the Splinter Cell/Ghost Recon: Wildlands extension called Special Operation 1. Michael Ironside (Top Gun, Starship Troopers) is also reprising his role in the DLC and the rumor says that a new Splinter Cell game will be shown at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles. But the other series doesn't have that comfort.

After mediocre Metal Gear Survive (60% on Metacritic) and Kojima's departure, who created the series from the scratch for Konami, it looks like the Metal Gear series is, at least temporally, put on hiatus.

"I've heard they don't make them like me anymore. There was this other guy though - Army Infiltration," Fisher says. "He wore a bandana or something." Karen Bowman, the Ghosts' CIA contact in Wildlands and apparently an old acquaintance of Fisher's, says that guy finally retired. "Then it's only me," Fisher responds, losing himself in reminiscence for a moment before the cutscene continues.

You guessed it, it's a direct to Big Boss, Metal Gear Solid's protagonists. The first, and in many ways, revolutionary Splinter Call was released in 2002, a year after Metal Gear Solid 2. The two stalth games were totally different in themes and gameplay mechanisms, but Sam Fisher and Solid Snakea are still some of the most recognizable game characters. "The world called for wetwork, and they answered."

Call the Ghosts: Sam Fisher is coming to the Wildlands! A rogue CIA agent has come to Bolivia to sell top-secret Intel to the Santa Blanca, and it is your mission to help Sam stop him. Head over to La Cruz to take on this high-risk infiltration challenge: Fisher’s waiting for you.

Ghost Recon Wildlands' Special Operation 1 is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One NOW!
