It's no secret that Activision is hoping to expand the reach of its IPs beyond video games. The Call of Duty movie has been reported on for quite a while, but now it appears two other Activision Blizzard titles could be getting adapted. While the publisher has yet to officially announce anything, a LinkedIn profile of a high-ranking Activision Blizzard employee has seemingly revealed that an Overwatch cartoon and Diablo anime are in the works.
Nick van Dyk is the president of the film and TV division of Activision Blizzard. According to his LinkedIn profile, he has worked on both of these unannounced projects.
His profile reveals that he was exeuctive producer of Diablo, "a TV adaptation of Blizzard Entertainment's IP, rendered in anime style." He says it's currently in pre-production for distribution worldwide through Netflix. His profile also says that he and his creative partner "developed and sold an animated series based on Blizzard's Overwatch franchise."
This isn't the first time we've heard of a Diablo animated series coming to Netflix. A tweet from comic book publishing company Boom Studios! founder Andrew "Andy" Cosby stated that he was in "final talks" to help a Diablo show for Activision Blizzard and Netflix. That was back in 2018 though, and nothing seemed to come of it.
Netflix has found tremendous success with its Castlevania animated series. Also based on a popular game franchise, it's currently slated to debut its third season on March 5.
