While we're patiently waiting for the announcement of a proper sequel to Machine Games' Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, Bethesda will still release a new Wolfenstein game this year – but it won't feature BJ Blazkowicz – as the upcoming Youngblood is focused on his daughters, Jess and Soph.

Wolfenstein: Youngblood is supervised by the team at Machine Games, but a big chunk of the brand-new shooter is being made at Arkane Studios, the renowned makers of the Dishonored series and Prey.

In July's issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine, Executive Producer Jerk Gustafsson revealed that Youngblood will borrow heavily from Arkane's previous titles. “I think players will see a lot of similarities to level design in the Dishonored games, so in that sense it can be a little bit different as an experience but it can be for the benefit of the game, especially when it comes to finding different ways of approaching a combat scenario or a mission in general,” Gustafsson explained. “The open-ended structure and co-op aspect has made it a little more difficult when it comes to the narrative."

We do think we have a strong story, but it’s quite different from what we have done before; it’s a little bit lighter, not only in tone but also when it comes to the amount of content, [...] that’s the big change when it comes to previous titles: the campaign is a bit shorter but the amount of gameplay time is greater. Players will be able to stay in the game for a long time. We’ll add additional side-missions and new challenges once the campaign is completed. There’s a lot more activities and side-missions that you can do in Youngblood than in previous Wolfenstein games,” Gustafsson concluded.

At its core, Youngblood is a co-op title that takes place in 1980, 19 years after the series' protagonist BJ Blazkowicz successfully ignited the second American Revolution in The New Colossus. Take a look:

Welcome to the 1980s. BJ Blazkowicz is missing. His last-known whereabouts: Nazi-occupied Paris. The only ones who can find him are his twin daughters, Jess and Soph Blazkowicz—and no Nazi scum are gonna stand in their way. Liberate Paris from the Nazi threat as you search for your father in the first open-ended co-op adventure in the series, either with a friend or an AI companion.

Wolfenstein: Youngblood is coming to PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC on July 26th.
