Over the years, the LGBTQ community has seen increased representation in the media, whether it be in film or television. And to honor LGBTQ-inclusive content, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) holds an annual awards ceremony to honor authentic and impactful LGBTQ characters or storylines.

Now, for the first time in the history of the GLAAD Media Awards, there will be an "Outstanding Video Game" category, which is dedicated to titles that feature meaningful storylines revolving around LGBTQ topics.

This category will make its debut at the 30th awards ceremony in 2019, so only games that are released before December 31, 2018 will be eligible for the upcoming awards season. As a result, titles like The Last of Us Part II, which left many buzzing over the inclusion of a lesbian romance in its trailer, won't be eligible for next year's celebration.

That said, big games like Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, which allows players to pursue same-sex relationships, will be eligible for the 30th Annual GLAAD Media Awards.
