Marvel Rivals is teaming up with Marvel Animation to bring players the game's first-ever PvE Mode.
The Marvel Zombies mode, inspired the recently released adult animated miniseries, is an endless horde mode where you'll take on waves of zombies as Thor, Blade, Magik, Jeff, and The Punisher. Survive long enough, and you'll go on to encounter Zombie Namor and The Queen of the Dead as bosses. Each of these heroes will have unique abilities specifically for this mode.
A sneak peak of the Marvel Zombies mode in Marvel Rivals can be seen toward the end of the announcement trailer below, at around the 2:15 mark.
Under Khonshu's guidance, infiltrate Midtown New York—now engulfed by the zombie virus—alongside your remaining Super Hero teammates. Your objective is singular: Find and stop the Queen of the Dead and her evil plan at any cost. In this new Mode inspired by Marvel Animation’s Marvel Zombies, you'll get to play as Thor, Blade, Magik, Jeff, or The Punisher, taking on endless waves of zombies. You'll have to survive the horde, go toe-to-toe with Zombie Namor and The Queen of the Dead as bosses, and fight to save the world from getting totally zombified. Each hero has been given some unique abilities: Charge through the hordes as Jeff, slice and dice with Blade's bouncing Moon Blades, shock zombies with Thor in his persistent Awakened state, or go berserk as Magik in her unlimited Darkchild form! Showcase your epic combat skills against the zombie swarms and tough bosses!
Marvel Zombies is designed as a special limited-time Halloween event for Marvel Rivals. It is set to go live on October 23, 2025. The official trailer for the mode will likely be revealed sometime next week.
In addition to the new mode, we should probably expect some Halloween-themed cosmetics to be available. The video teases Halloween skins for Jeff the Shark and Blade, although we don't see anything (yet) for Thor, Magik, or Punisher.
Released in December 2024, Marvel Rivals has grown to become one of the world's most popular team-based PvP shooters. Players set into the suits of their favorite Marvel heroes and villains, competing in teams across a series of maps and game modes. Although Marvel Rivals is primarily a PvP-focused game mode, we typically see these sort of temporary PvE modes introduced as part of seasonal celebration events.
Marvel Rivals' Zombies Mode, although based on the Marvel animated series, does feel like it's inspired by Overwatch's Junkenstein's Revenge, the classic four-player co-op horde mode where players must survive against waves of zombie Omnics created by Dr. Junkenstein.
