SUPERMAN Fan Creates Unreal Engine 5 Demo That Proves How Epic A Future Video Game Could Be

A Superman fan has used the powerful Unreal Engine 5 to create a demo of what a game revolving around the Man of Tomorrow could look like, and it takes the hero from Metropolis and into outer space...

Unreal Engine 5 promises to be a game-changer for video games moving forward, with a demo released to tie into The Matrix Resurrections offering a glimpse into just how photorealistic they'll eventually look. Some gamers have used that to create their own versions of what the future might hold in store, with this effort focusing on DC Comics icon Superman!

Comic book fans have spent years clamouring for a new Superman game, with rumours swirling that Arkham trilogy developers Rocksteady was working on one prior to Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League being announced.

Making a video game revolving around the Man of Steel is easier said than done, but this demo shows the potential one could have if done well. It starts with Superman flying through Metropolis before heading high above the city and into space. From there, Kal-El lands on the moon in what looks like a true "open-world" adventure.

The challenge for any developer would be dialling the hero's powers back to a point where he's not some unstoppable force. After all, a literal open-world game isn't close to becoming a reality at this stage, so how would Superman be confined to Metropolis...and not fly from one end of the city to the other in seconds?

Then, there's the issue with combat, as anyone the Man of Tomorrow faces would need to be formidable enough to pose a challenge to the world's strongest superhero.

Only time will tell whether a game like this gets made, but there's currently no indication that DC Studios is plotting a title revolving around the character. That could change, of course, especially as James Gunn and Peter Safran are said to be plotting out a shared world of projects encompassing movies, TV shows, and video games.

Check out this Superman demo in the player below.

This is actually beautiful. So I think a good way getting around Superman being overpowered is Kryptonite. Sounds simple, but it could be done like this. Lex designs some sort of synthetic Kryptonite. Not as deadly as the regular, but strong enough to inflict damage from guns and hits. The normal henchmen could have suits, guns/assorted weapons and gauntlets equipped with said synthetic K. The boss battles could be easier to do because Supes already has such a great gallery. Lex could convince the bosses that Supes can be weaked due to his plentiful synthetic K. Mongul, Metallo, Cyborg Supes, Eradicator, Brainiac and others could be great boss battles. Lex could be the final boss, with a synthetic K powered armored suit.
