With Spring Training right around the corner, Sony San Diego has finally lifted the lid on this year's baseball game, MLB The Show 21. San Diego Padres shortstop Fernando “El Nino” Tatis Jr. will be the cover athlete of this year's game for all platforms.
That's right, for the first time ever in the history of MLB The Show, this year's game will be releasing on PlayStation and Xbox consoles. MLB The Show 21 is scheduled to launch on April 20, 2021, on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. There was no mention of Nintendo Switch or PC versions of the game.
Sony will be applying the next-gen price hike, meaning the Standard Edition of MLB The Show 21 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S will cost $69.99. It will cost $59.99 on last-gen consoles, PS4 and Xbox One. The Standard Edition of the game will not include a "upgrade path" from the PS4 to PS5 or Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S; however, it sounds like the Collector's Edition will. We'll have to wait until Wednesday, February 3, for more details on that.
MLB The Show 21 will support cross-platform play and cross-progression. So if f you begin playing on PS4, you'll be able to continue playing earn and use content on PlayStation 5, or it sounds like even Xbox for that matter. Purchased Stubs are not included, however.
Today's reveal only included the platforms, release date and cover athlete. Sony will highlight new gameplay features in MLB The Show 21 through something called Feature PRemieres. These will broadcast across Sony's social media channels beginning in March.
