Last week, a series of hands-on impression pieces for the highly anticipated Kingdom Hearts 3 hit the web. With those previews came an update on when we can expect a release date. According to franchise director Tetsuya Nomura, we can expect Square Enix to reveal a release date for Kingdom Hears 3 in just a few weeks.
"We do plan to announce [the release date] early next month," Nomura said via translation. "We are making final, last-minute adjustments, but we are pretty firm on a certain date, so we hope to reveal it next month."
With E3 right around the corner, that's the most likely announcement window. Square Enix is hosting an E3 live stream on Monday, June 11 at 11:00 a.m. PDT / 1:00 p.m. EDT. We don't know for sure what they intend to announce, but a Kingdom Hearts 3 release date would surely be welcomed news. It's possible that Square could save the announcement for either Microsoft's or Sony's conference, as those tend to be the biggest events of E3.
Prior to E3, however, the 2018 Kingdom Hearts orchestra tour kicks off on June 9. Square Enix used the tour last year to debut a new Kingdom Hearts 3 trailer. It's possible but unlikely they would use this to announce the release date.
At D23 last year, Square Enix subtly revealed a 2018 release window for Kingdom Hearts 3 when it flashed at the end of the trailer showcasing the Toy Story world. If that's still the case, we can most likely expect the game to release in the back half of this year. If not, early 2019 is possible. We'll find out soon enough!
