Anthem game director Jonathan Warner
promised fans more info on the game's demo would be shared soon and EA delivered on that promise today at PAX. During a panel for the highly anticipated multiplayer shooter, EA announced the demo for
Anthem will begin on February 1, 2019.
This will be a "VIP" demo, available to those who are EA/Origin Access subscribers on Xbox One and PC, respectively. However, the demo will also be available to those who pre-order the game, which means the demo will also be available to those on PlayStation 4.
Anthem lead producer Mike Gambled assured this is a legitimate demo and not a "tech test or a beta looking for feedback." EA did not mention the specific size of the demo or how much content would be accessible in it but did say it's a "slice of our game." Typically, EA and Origin Access trials allow for up to 10 hours of gameplay, so it's possible the
Anthem demo will allow the same. This doesn't necessarily mean the entire game will be accessible in the demo, however, and I wouldn't be surprised if EA gated off content beyond the initial stages.
For those hoping to get an even earlier look at the game, EA said there will be an undisclosed number of internal alphas and betas between now and when the demo arrives on February 1. There was no mention of when these would begin or how invites would be handled.
Anthem has a release date of February 22, 2019.
