While we know a ton about Anthem's gameplay and combat-system, information on its highly anticipated narrative has remained under wraps. Thankfully though, during a PAX West panel, a couple of the game's developers answered some fan questions and revealed a tantilising inkling of what to expect from the game's story.
Given the studio's history of including significant player choice in their games, the question was put to the devs of whether Anthem would follow suit. Mark Gamble, the game's producer, revealed that Anthem would indeed feature a consequence-driven narrative similar to its predecessors.
Yes. Players will find many instances in the open world and in Tartis where they will have to choose their responses with a limited dialogue wheel. This could be a simple "yes" or "no" answer, or the means of choosing how to take on a mission - but just like other BioWare games, those choices will play a much bigger part in the overall story.
Player choice is a concept wherein, theoretically, a game's story would adapt and change based on the choices a player makes throughout. The ramifications of such choices literally shape a player's experience with the game. This revelations serves as a relief for fans of the Bioware's previous titles, such as Mass Effect and Dragon Age, as player choice is a key component of what made those titles so enjoyable.
What do you think of Gamble's comments? Are you glad that your choices will affect the story of Anthem?
Anthem is slated to release on February 22nd for PS4, Xbox One, and PC - though its beta will begin on February 1st.
