Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the first games that will utilize Microsof'ts Smart Delivery feature for Xbox Series X. Announced today by Microsoft, Smart Delivery is a technology/marketing promotion that ensures all exclusive Xbox Games Studios titles will be playable for Xbox Series X if you purchase them for Xbox One. It's essentially a forward compatibility feature, meaning gamers won't have to purchase the same game twice if it's available on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X shortly after.
While Microsoft only guaranteed Xbox Game Studios for Smart Delivery, the technology is available for all developers and publishers to adopt and CD Projekt Red is among the first to do so. The gamer-friendly developer/publisher announced shortly after Microsoft's
blog post that anyone who purchases
Cyberpunk 2077 on Xbox One will get to upgrade to the Xbox Series X version for free when it releases.
Cyberpunk 2077 will release on September 17 after suffering a five-month delay. It will initially be available for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
Xbox Series X launches this holiday season, but no specific date has been announced. It's unclear if
Cyberpunk 2077 will be available on the next-gen platform at launch or shortly afterward. Either way, it will be free to upgrade if you already own it on Xbox One.
