CD Projekt Red's massive sci-fi RPG Cyberpunk 2077 will receive free downloadable content after its launch in November, the publisher confirmed. When asked publicly on Twitter, the company simply replied with a gif of the Kool-Aid man shouting "Ohhh yeaahh!"
CD Projekt Red is generally considered to have some of the best post-launch practices for its games so while this move wasn't unexpected, it's still welcomed. It's also nice to have confirmation prior to the game's launch.
CD Projekt Red didn't get into specifics of what the DLC for Cyberpunk 2077 will look like, but one figures it will be similar to what was offered for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. For comparison, 2015 fantasy RPG was supported with 16 pieces of additional add-on content in the form of cosmetics and minor gameplay features like new weapons and armor. Cyberpunk 2077's free DLC figures to be in the same vein, especially with how many customization options are available to players. It's possible smaller side quests will be added through free DLC.
Of course, this doesn't mean all of Cyberpunk 2077's post-launch content will be free. In addition to all of the free DLC, The Witcher 3 also received two huge paid-for expansions in Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. These were considerably larger expansions that added new characters and monsters, gameplay mechanics, quests and locations. It's quite likely Cyberpunk 2077 will also see paid expansions released in addition to the free DLC offered post-launch.
