Earlier this month, Valve finally announced a new
Half-Life video game. However, it isn't the long-awaited and fabled
Half-Life 3 but rather a virtual reality game that takes place between the events of
Half-Life and
Half-Life 2 —
though, it could lead to the threequel being made. With the announcement trailer came a release window for
Half-Life: Alyx — that being the month of March 2020.
The VR game slotted itself right in before the highly anticipated release of
Cyberpunk 2077. The open-world first-person shooter will be releasing for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on April 16th, 2020. However, the developers of the futuristic role-playing game recently stated that they aren't concerned that
Half-Life: Alyx will be releasing around the same time as their game.
Michal Nowakowski, CD Projekt Red's Senior VP of Business Development, wrote (via
DualShockers) that VR is still very much a niche and therefore shouldn't be any trouble for a traditional AAA title like
Cyberpunk 2077.
“So, of course, we’ve seen the Half-Life announcement. I think it was a surprise for everybody, but I think not in the way you are suggesting," Nowakowski wrote.
"VR remains an extremely nichey niche of the market, like it’s very, very small. The only reason I can think of why has Valve has decided to actually put this title in the market is because they actually have a corporation on the hardware side of things, and I assume that they are actually planning.”
Cyberpunk 2077 is set to release on April 16th, 2020 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
Half-Life: Alyx is set to release via Steam in March 2020.
