Cyberpunk 2077 was one of the highlights of this year's E3. We found out that the game would breathtakingly feature Keanu Reeves as well as its release date: April 16th, 2020. Not long after finding out when the highly anticipated game would be releasing, Microsoft unveiled Project Scarlett and confirmed that they're aiming for a holiday 2020 launch.
This means that
Cyberpunk 2077 comes out just a couple of months before the beginning of the next-generation. So naturally people are wondering whether the futuristic open-world game will be making its way onto the PlayStation 5 and/or Xbox's Project Scarlett.
Eurogamer recently did an interview with the lead quest designer who's working on the game, Pawel Sasko, wherein they asked him what he could say on the matter. Sasko told them that they're currently concentrating on the current-generation versions of the game but that once that's done it's most likely something that they will look into.
Right now we’re focusing on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One but obviously in the future we’d probably like to have Cyberpunk 2077 on the next platforms. But that’s really a matter for the future, to be honest. Right now we’re focusing on these.
Sasko then spoke about how CD Projekt Red are pushing the current-generation of consoles to their limits and that, to get the game to look as stunning as it does in the gameplay footage and trailers, you'll need a pretty powerful PC.
One of the things we learned with The Witcher 3 was, you should not delay working on the console versions, ever. So at all times we have a version running for everything. And of course, the high-end version we’re showing running it is completely different to the consoles, the current-gen is starting to get old. So there’s some things which won’t look as crisp. But the important thing to us is it will be fluid, it will play on your machine. There are limitations for any given hardware, that’s a natural thing. But we’ll do everything we can to squeeze as much as we can.
Cyberpunk 2077 is set to release on April 16th, 2020 for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
