CYBERPUNK 2077 Is Currently Generating More Interest Than THE WITCHER 3, According To CD Projekt Red
While CD Project Red has yet to announce a release date for Cyberpunk 2077, the developer revealed in a recent financial call that the RPG has already generated more interest than The Witcher III: Wild Hunt.
The first-ever trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 dropped a few years ago, but it wasn't until 2018 that players saw any significant gameplay footage—much of which came from the nearly hour-long trailer released in August.
When this gameplay trailer was shared by CD Projekt Red, most of us were just hoping to see some exciting footage, while developers were undoubtedly more focused on monitoring the overall response to the material.
Even though it was clear that the footage generated a lot of buzz the day it was released, the developers recently revealed some surprising facts about the amount of interest surrounding the game during yesterday's Q3 2018 financial call.
"We are comparing apples and apples here: you are witnessing the activity on our own YouTube channel in the first four post-release weeks. The six yellow bars on the left represent six of our most popular videos promoting The Witcher 3, published between the game’s announcement and ultimate release. The two bluish bars on the right correspond to the two initial – well, maybe not initial since the first-ever Cyberpunk 2077 trailer was released some years ago – but this year we released two new trailers showcasing our upcoming release. The first of those appeared at the end of the second quarter, while the 48-minute gameplay trailer was released this August. As you can see, interest in Cyberpunk 2077, or at least in its trailers, is many times greater than in the case of The Witcher."
In short, both the E3 trailer and the gameplay released in August have managed to generate more interest than videos devoted to promoting The Witcher III: Wild Hunt.
While CEO Adam Kiciński, in this same financial call, cautioned that these figures shouldn't be taken as a guarantee that Cyberpunk 2077 will outperform or even match the success and acclaim of The Witcher game, it's hard to imagine that the sci-fi RPG won't at least be profitable. Then again, it's possible things can change once players begin testing the game first hand.
