Whether it be a cinematic trailer or gameplay footage, there's no denying that the marketing for Cyberpunk 2077 has done a stellar job at getting both hardcore and casual gamers excited for the latest title from CD Projekt Red.
Of course, if you've been paying attention to all of the released footage, then you may have noticed that pretty much all of the action has taken place within Night City. As a result, many have assumed that players won't be able to leave the neon-lit city.
However, during an interview with Eurogamer, Cyberpunk 2077's lead quest designer Paweł Sasko confirmed that more areas can be explored, including a region referred to as the Badlands.
"Cyberspace is a really dangerous place - as you saw in this year's demo, there were multiple netrunners you needed support from to get in there, you were lying in the bathtub full of ice because your body becomes a CPU and you need a lot of transferring power," Sasko said before explaining that Cyberspace will actually be an explorable environment. "So you access cyberspace in specific story moments and in some cases you can explore it."
Finally, the designer noted that several quests and contracts will take players to the Badlands, a harsh landscape that lies outside of Night City. He even briefly mentioned that there will be "a few other surprises." Unfortunately, he didn't share any more details on these surprises could be.
Cyberpunk 2077 will be out on April 16, 2020 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
