In a rather surprising bit of news, a recent interview has revealed that CD Projekt RED has done away with one of the gameplay mechanics in Cyberpunk 2077; one that had been previously introduced in presentations for the upcoming title, and they have a pretty good reason for it.
During an interview with Gamereactor, Cyberpunk 2077 Level Designer Max Pears was asked whether wall-running would be part of the game's vertical exploration, and Pears revealed that the developers decided to remove this ability from the final version of the game.
"Ah, the wall running. That is something that we removed due to design reasons, but there's still going to be a lot of flexibility in how you move, that's for sure," explained Pears.
The wall-running ability was showcased in a 48-minute long presentation for Cyberpunk 2077 that was shared in August of 2018; where we see the game's main character using something called the Mantis Blades to attach to walls while, well, wall-running.
Pears doesn't mention whether the Mantis Blades have been completely removed from the game, as it could still be used as a long-range weapon, but it is very likely that it won't help players latch onto walls any more.
To be quite fair, CD Projekt RED did mention that this particular feature shown during the 2018 presentation — which we have posted down below for you to check out — was still a work in progress, and that what they showed may be changed over the course of the game's development.
