Earlier this week there was a buzz among the Dark Souls and anime community alike, due to the rumors of a leak that there would be a new anime series based on Dark Souls from Netflix. The leak reportedly says that it will be created by FromSoftware and be premiered on Netflix.
The site that reported this leak was called GiantFreakinRobot, they are known for having a fair record of accuracy when it comes to reporting leaks and alleged insider information. Will this leak turn out to be true? Only time will tell us, unfortunately.
There were not any other details shared regarding the news, other than it's an anime that will be based on Dark Souls. For those who do not know, Dark Souls is a trilogy of video games that was released on multiple platforms from 2011 all the way to 2016. The Dark Souls games are RPGs, with a twist of being very difficult and dying being very normal in them. Dark tones mixed with beautiful aesthetics make the games visually appealing in a different way than most RPGs do. One of the most notable things fans of the franchise love most is how incredibly challenging each game is, it is known as one of the hardest games to complete and master ever.
With Dark Souls being one of the best and most well-known video games of all time, this could prove as a big move for Netflix. They have shown that not all video game to anime adaptations are terrible, with the success of the Castlevania anime series. They also recently announced the start of another season for the Castlevania series as well, which bodes well for fans of the show. There was also the big success of the Cyberpunk anime series called Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which helped bring back to life the video game.
The spot of lore that the Dark Souls anime series would most likely start with is the events that happened in the first game, as there is a lot of lore and things to set the groundwork for fans to understand what is going on and what will happen later on in the series. The first game takes place in a fantasy world that is very grim and dark called Lordran. The realm of Lordran is filled with knights, dragons, phantoms, demons, and other supernatural creatures. Lordran was once overrun with dragons until the events of the First Flame and the Lord Souls’ discovery.
