Blizzard revealed today a brand new class coming to Diablo 4 in the game's next expansion later this year. The Spiritborn is an entirely new class in the Diablo series, arriving with the Vessel of Hatred expansion on October 8th.
Hailing from the jungles of Nahantu, these versatile warriors call upon the defenders of the Spirit Realm, the Spirit Guardians, to imbue their attacks with unique strengths and powers. The reveal today kicked off with a cinematic trailer that highlighted the grim trial in which children are tested to become a Spiritborn.
In addition to revealing the nature of Spiritborn, today's reveal also provided a deep dive into the class's new combat mechanics. Inspired by martial arts movement, the Spiritborn is a dexterity-focused class that moves quickly and aggressively, their fluid attacks empowered by Spirit Guardians.
"Spiritborn are versatile warriors who fuse devastating three-hit-combo attacks and acrobatic fluidity into a potent display of their ferocity," Blizzard details. "They are masters of hand-to-hand combat, doling out lethality at close range through the ability to extend their wrath with the aid of spirit energy and their favored demon-slaying implement, the glaive. Their physical prowess allows them to block or dodge incoming strikes, absorbing this power for themselves or redirecting it back at their aggressors."
Representing the connection between humans and the natural world they live in, Spirit Guardians take the form of specific animals and empower the Spiritborn with unique skills and abilities. The Jaguar (Rezoka), for example, attacks repeatedly with blinding speed and fury, ramping up its damage in between kills. The Gorilla (Wumba)is more of a tank-like creature with a focus on resilience and retaliation. The Eagle (Kwatli) provides increased movement speed and amplified Evade, while also offering precise mid-ranged attacks. Lastly, the Centipede (Balazan) provides crowd control through health leeching and damage over time.
With all of these unique abilities and skills, the Spiritborn are flexible warriors, capable of adapting to any situation. Players can opt to lean into one specific Guardian style or mix them together and create hybrid builds.
