Diablo 4 is adding one of its most requested quality-of-life features more than three years after launch. Season 15 will introduce Rebirth, a system that lets players convert an existing Eternal realm character into a Seasonal character without losing the identity they have built.

Since Diablo 4 launched, characters created during a season have been locked to that season’s mechanics and leaderboards. When the season ends, those characters move to the Eternal realm, where seasonal content no longer applies. Many players treat the Eternal realm as a resting place for finished characters and simply create a new one at the start of every season. That process means rebuilding appearance, cosmetics, and name from scratch each time. Rebirth is designed to remove that repetitive step.

With the new system, players can take an Eternal character and Rebirth it into the current season. The character begins again at Level 1. Class, name, appearance, and Hardcore or Normal status all carry over. Cosmetic preferences are fully preserved, including transmogs, pigments, mounts and their accessories, pets, portals, and headstones. Equipment and inventory do not transfer. Starting a fresh seasonal journey with endgame gear would break progression, so Blizzard has kept power separate from identity.

A running total of hours played across every Rebirth of the same character will also be tracked. This gives players a single long-term record of time spent on that specific hero even as they reset for new seasons.

Blizzard first acknowledged community demand for a Rebirth-style feature in the months after launch. The concept existed in Diablo 3, and many players expected a similar option to arrive sooner. Its addition in Season 15 comes after sustained requests and marks one of the clearer examples of the studio responding to long-term feedback.

The feature will be available for testing in the 3.2.0 Public Test Realm, which runs from August 4 to August 11, 2026. Season 15 itself is currently expected to begin on September 15, 2026. The PTR window gives players a chance to try the conversion process and confirm that cosmetics and character details transfer correctly before the season goes live.

Rebirth does not change the fundamental seasonal structure. Players still start at Level 1, still work through the campaign or skip it according to their preference, and still engage with that season’s new mechanics. What it removes is the friction of redoing character creation and re-earning cosmetic unlocks that many players already consider part of their character’s identity. For those who main a single class or maintain a Hardcore character they are attached to, the ability to carry that identity forward each season is a meaningful quality-of-life improvement.

The timing is notable. Season 14 drew significant criticism, and general sentiment around the game has been mixed in recent months despite stronger reception for several earlier seasons. Season 15 therefore carries higher expectations. Adding a feature that has been near the top of community request lists for years is one way Blizzard can signal responsiveness before the new season begins.

Rebirth will not solve every complaint about seasonal play. Some players still prefer the pure fresh-start feeling of a brand-new character. Others may continue to treat Eternal as their primary home. For the large group that wants to keep the same name, look, and cosmetic loadout while participating in new seasonal content, the system directly addresses a point of friction that has existed since launch.

When the 3.2.0 PTR opens on August 4, players will be able to test the conversion process themselves. Full implementation follows with Season 15 in September. After more than three years of requests, Diablo 4 is finally giving players a way to bring their established characters into each new season without starting the customization process from zero.
