Video game developer BioWare, a division of Electronic Arts Inc., announced today that the Return to Ostagar downloadable content (DLC) for Dragon Age: Origins will be released on January 5 in North America and Europe for the Xbox 360 videogame and entertainment system and PC versions of the game at a cost of 400 BioWare Points or Microsoft Points. The DLC will be available for the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system later in January. Return to Ostagar allows players to exact their revenge and embark on a quest for the mighty arms and armor of the once great King Cailan when they revisit Ostagar, the site of the Grey Wardens’ darkest hour, to reclaim the honor and learn the secrets of Ferelden’s fallen king.

“We are thrilled at the way the fans have embraced Dragon Age: Origins and we’re excited to welcome them back into the game,” said Aaryn Flynn, General Manager and Vice President, BioWare Edmonton. “Return to Ostagar represents BioWare’s commitment to providing a steady stream of compelling post release content as we continue to expand the Dragon Age universe.”

Return to Ostagar summons players to a new quest in which they will return to the fateful battleground in Ostagar where the Grey Wardens were nearly wiped out. Players will discover King Cailan’s top-secret political agenda and go behind enemy lines to revisit a place that many feared had been lost to history.

Your memories of the battle of Ostagar will haunt you for years to come. It laid waste to your order and claimed the lives of many great men and women, including the brash young King Cailan and your mentor, Duncan.”

Now, there are rumors that a fellow survivor of the battle has escaped from captivity and is seeking the Grey Wardens' help. The time has come for the Grey Wardens to make their return to Ostagar and exact their revenge upon the darkspawn.

About King Cailan

King Cailan Theirin inherited a Ferelden at peace, and it frustrated him immensely. His father, beloved King Maric, had become a legend in his own lifetime, defeating the Orlesians to gain independence for the nation. To Cailan, that was the proper role of a king–rallying people against a common enemy. But he also believed his father's success had deprived him of the opportunity for greatness–Cailan's Ferelden was cursed by stability.

And so it was that young King Cailan, hungry for glory and eager to emulate the ancient legends, committed the armies of Ferelden to face the darkspawn at the earliest sign of the Blight. He took counsel from Grey Wardens, and bolstered his forces with foreign troops, even inviting soldiers from hated Orlais. This angered many who had served under Maric, but Cailan had no interest in their quaint national prejudices; the darkspawn and their archdemon master–these were threats worthy of a soon-to-be legendary king.

Whatever the reasons, Cailan and the Grey Wardens stood for Ferelden against the darkspawn. It should have been a decisive victory, but they were abandoned to face the horde alone.

Return to fallen Ostagar, discover the fate of a king, and reveal the true cost of betrayal.

Return to Ostagar will be available for 400 BioWare Points on the PC and 400 Microsoft Points on the Xbox 360 on January 5. It will be available for $4.99 on the PlayStation Store later in the month. Dragon Age: Origins is rated M by the ESRB and 18+ by PEGI.
