As promised, BioWare officially announced the long-rumored Dragon Age 4 at last week's Game Awards 2018 with a short and pretty mysterious teaser trailer spotlighting Fen'Harel, also known as the Dread Wolf in the game's bigger universe. BioWare has confirmed that it's indeed Fen'Harel via Dragon Age 4's "TheDreadWolfRises" Twitter hashtag, and that's all we know about it at the moment.
"We have been working on a new Dragon Age game for quite a while now and I am pleased to finally tease the existence of this project!," BioWare's executive producer Mark Darriah explained. "While we won’t be sharing any details for now, I can tell you we have been building a new team around a core of Dragon Age veterans, people I’ve worked with on Dragon Age, Jade Empire, and some of whom I’ve worked with since the Baldur’s Gate days."
In January, we learned that the next Dragon Age is codenamed "Joplin" (BioWare's other game that was originally codenamed "Dylan" ultimately turned out to be Anthem) and has been rebooted, at least once. According to Kotaku's sources, EA's goal was to implement more “live” elements into the game, suggesting that the studio might be planning to add some online features into the game.
Shortly after the report release, BioWare general manager Casey Hudson announced that the studio is indeed working on a new Dragon Age, and Hudson described it as "story & character focused." It looks like this Dragon Age game won't be released anytime soon, but we will definitely learn more about the title during next year's EA PLAY. In the meantime, check out the game's teaser below:
