EA has announced that Dragon Age: The Veilguard will launch globally on Thursday, October 31, 2024. That happens to be Halloween, so if you don't feel like trick or treating this year, just buy yourself a bag of candy and go to town on the next chapter in the critically-acclaimed role-playing saga.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been a long time coming, especially for fans of the franchise who have been waiting patiently since 2014's Dragon Age: Inquisition. The game began development all the way back in 2015, but underwent multiple reboots. It was officially announced in 2018, and revealed as Dragon Age: Dreadwolf in 2022.
But this past summer, EA revealed the new title — Dragon Age: The Veilguard — which they felt better reflected the tone and premise of what Dragon Age 4 is all about.
"At BioWare, we create worlds of adventure, conflict and companionship, where you’re at the center of it all," wrote BioWare GM and Dragon Age Executive Producer Gary McKay back in June. "As fans of our franchise know, every Dragon Age game has delivered a new standalone story. Set in the world of Thedas, these tales explore epic locales and threats, always thrusting you into a new conflict. Each game also introduces a new lead hero – The Warden, Hawke, The Inquisitor – that you can call your own. You can expect all that, and more, with the new game. And of course, much like your unique hero, it wouldn’t be a Dragon Age game without an amazing cast of companions – right?"
He continued: "Each of the seven unique characters that make up your companions will have deep and compelling storylines where the decisions you make will impact your relationships with them – as well as their lives. You’ll unite this team of unforgettable heroes as you take on a terrifying new threat unleashed on the world. Naturally, the Dread Wolf still has an important part in this tale, but you and your companions – not your enemies – are the heart of this new experience."
Fellowship is said to be "central to the experience" of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Each of your companions will have their own storylines, motivations, and skill trees. Players will take on the role of a fully customizable hero known as Rook who "must rise up, rally a team and forge relationships to become the unexpected leader others believe in."
In Dragon Age: The Veilguard , players will step into the role of Rook, a fully-customizable protagonist who must rise up, unite their crew and become the hero Thedas needs in a time where legends are born or slain. Joining Rook in their fight against corrupt Elven gods is a cast of seven compelling companions, each of whom hails from an iconic faction from Dragon Age lore. In addition to their own personal storylines and motivations, companions Bellara, Davrin, Emmrich, Harding, Lucanis, Neve and Taash all bring unique combat abilities and equipment to the fray, which Rook must strategically implement in their fight for the future of Thedas.
With a release date now locked in, EA has opened up pre-orders for Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The Standard Edition of the game will be available for $69.99 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and $59.99 on PC. Anyone who pre-orders will receive the cosmetic Blood Dragon Armor sets for Warrior, Mage, and Rogue Classes.
The Deluxe Edition — $89.99 on console and $79.99 on PC — includes the following: three Rook armor sets, six Rook weapons, seven companion armor sets and seven companion weapons. EA Play Pro members will get unlimited access to the EA Play Pro Edition of Dragon Age: The Veilguard on October 31st as well.
