At long last, EA and BioWare have finally unveiled Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the fourth installment in the acclaimed fantasy RPG series. Dragon Age 4 was first announced in 2018, and revealed as Dragon Age: Dreadwolf in 2022. However, just last week, EA revealed the new title of the game, while also delivering a cinematic trailer along with more than 15 minutes of gameplay.

"Dragon Age: The Veilguard builds upon the pillars the iconic series is best known for, delivering a bold and heroic adventure guided by rich storytelling, fluid and strategic combat, companions and fellowship, and choices that matter," the developer wrote about the game.

Players take on the role of a fully-customizable hero referred to as Rook. Though Dragon Age is a single-player experience, you won't be on this adventure alone.

"Fellowship is central to the experience of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, with each companion entering the fray with their own storylines, motivations and skill trees," EA teases. "In this tale that will decide the fate of Thedas forever, Rook must rise up, rally a team and forge relationships to become the unexpected leader others believe in."

During the Xbox Game Showcase, EA revealed each of the companions you'll battle alongside in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Each of them brings their own expertise to the battlefield, and it will be up to you, the player, to decide how to mix and match them when entering the battle. two of the game's seven total companions can be brought into battle at a time, meaning you'll want to carefully think about the challenges that await when decided on these combinations. The cinematic trailer below introduces us to the game's companions.

Rally a team of seven companions, each with rich lives and deep backstories. These are characters to befriend, and even fall in love with. Among them, an assassin, a necromancer, and a detective will each bring their own expertise and unique abilities to the fight. You are never alone; decide who to take into battle and together face down demons, dragons and even ancient gods.
  • Bellara, a creative and romantic Veil Jumper obsessed with uncovering ancient secrets.
  • Davrin, a bold and charming Grey Warden who has made a name for himself as a monster hunter.
  • Emmrich, a necromancer of Nevarra's Mourn Watch who comes complete with a skeletal assistant, Manfred.
  • Harding, the dwarven scout, returns to the fray as a companion with her big heart, a positive outlook, and a ready bow – as well as unexpected magical powers.
  • Lucanis, a poised & pragmatic assassin who descends from the bloodline of the House of Crows, a criminal organization renowned throughout Thedas.
  • Neve, a cynic fighting for a better future, both as a private detective and a member of Tevinter's rebellious Shadow Dragons.
  • Taash, a dragon hunter allied with the Lords of Fortune who lives for adventure and doesn't mind taking risks.

Following the game's cinematic reveal, EA and BioWare also gave fans an extended look at Dragon Age: The Veilguard gameplay. More than 20 minutes of gameplay was shown off, with a big emphasis on combat. The footage shown below takes place during the opening moments of the game and has been edited to avoid spoilers. The majority of it is combat sequences with some conversations and cinematics sprinkled in.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is set to launch this Fall 2024 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
